This information is for educational purpose only and I cannot be held responsible if it is used for other reasons.

Warning: This information contain in this document might be dangerous for you if not used appropriately, there are some information not meant for public use that the search engine might return as a result for you, e.g. searching for free musical files on the internet which are might not be free in the real sense but might be kept on the server by a careless system administrator and this can be a violation of international law. So I will not be responsible for any misuse of the information.

Google is by far the most used search engine on the internet, based on statistic. Its popularity is due not only to excellent search effectiveness, but also extensive querying capabilities. However don’t forget that the Internet is a highly dynamic medium, so the results presented by Google are not always up-to-date – some search results might be out of date, while other relevant resources might not yet have been visited by Google BOT(the robot that visit websites from Google for indexing).

Most users like Google’s easy-to-use, uncluttered interface; its fast operation; and its quality search results. What most users don’t know is that Google offers some advanced search operators services that you can use to perform more targeted searches, this advance search features is used in penetration testing(computer hacking) so the process of using Google advance feature to search for information is called Google hacking.

Google is a two edge sword, it makes it possible to reach not just publicly available Internet resources, but also some that should never have been revealed. Read on, then, to discover the secrets of Google searching-and become a Google power searcher.

Site

Using this operator you restricts your results to sites within the specified domain example: type all the word in this bracket, without the bracket (site:www.unilag.edu.ng environmental sciences) will find all pages containing the word environmental sciences, located within the www.unilag.edu.ng domain.

allintext

What this operator does is, it restricts results to documents containing the specified phrase in the text, but not in the title, link descriptions or URLs example: type all the word in this bracket, without the bracket (allintext:”free software for my game”) will return result which contain the phrase “free software for my game” in their text only.

filetype

This operator restricts results to documents of the specified type example: type all the word in this bracket, without the bracket (filetype:pdf education) will return PDFs containing the word education, while filetype:xls student will return Excel spreadsheets with the word student in it. NOTE: You can search for other file type like mp3,mp4, 3gp for multimedia files, while e-books and research materials exist in pdf, doc, docx, xls format, and pictures exist in jpeg, jpg, png, gif, tiff, format. You can always google for any file format you want.

+

The plus operator specifies that a phrase should occur frequently in results example: type all the word in this bracket, without the bracket (free+game+download) will order results by the number of occurrences each of the word in the phrase “free game download”.

“”

This operator is delimiter for entire search phrases (not single words) example: type all the word in this bracket, without the bracket (“free music download”) will return result containing the phrase free music download. NOTE: Here’s one of Google’s most powerful search tools, but also one that not enough users know about. When you want to search for a particular item that you describe in multiple words, enclose the entire phrase in quotation marks. This forces Google to search for the exact phrase, and thus returns more targeted results. e.g. searching for information on history of Lagos state what you just simply do is to just enter the phrase in quoted format into the Google search engine like this “history of Lagos state” with the quote

This is not all about how to use Google advance search operators that you might need or you can try using the Google advance search feature on their website, this is even easier to use than typing the operator or even remembering it. So go enjoy the free stuff the internet has to offer, but make sure to be good.
